Dining at Pilot House Restaurant & Marina: A Fresh Seafood Experience with a View
If you’re heading to Key Largo and craving fresh seafood with a waterfront view, Pilot House Restaurant & Marina is a must-visit. Known for its laid-back atmosphere and marina-side dining, this local gem delivers a memorable experience for both visitors and locals alike. Here’s what made my recent visit so enjoyable.
Scenic Patio with Marina Views
One of the best features of the Pilot House is its inviting patio seating and outdoor bar, which overlook the marina. Whether you’re there for a casual lunch or a relaxing evening meal, you can enjoy the beautiful view of boats docked right by the restaurant. The atmosphere is calm and perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring Key Largo.
Fresh Seafood and Must-Try Dishes
If you’re a seafood lover, you’re in for a treat. The seafood at Pilot House is incredibly fresh, and I highly recommend the crunchy grouper sandwich. The crispy coating combined with the tender, flaky fish inside was perfection, and it’s clear that the kitchen takes pride in using top-quality ingredients.
While the menu offers a variety of options, the seafood is definitely the star of the show. You can’t go wrong with any of their fresh catches.
Friendly, Laid-Back Service
The wait staff at Pilot House embodies the laid-back, carefree vibe of the Keys. They were friendly, attentive, and made sure our dining experience was relaxed and enjoyable. Their easygoing approach really adds to the overall charm of the place, making you feel right at home in true Key West style.
A Piece of History Lost to Hurricane Irma
One unique feature that once set Pilot House apart was its glass-bottom floor, allowing diners to see marine life beneath them. Sadly, we learned that most of the floor was destroyed by Hurricane Irma. While it’s no longer a major feature, the ambiance and great views from the patio more than make up for it.
Perfect Frozen Cocktails
No visit to the Florida Keys would be complete without a tropical cocktail, and Pilot House doesn’t disappoint. I had a frozen rum daiquiri, and it was absolutely delicious—smooth, refreshing, and the perfect way to cool off in the Florida heat. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic daiquiri or one of their other frozen concoctions, you won’t be disappointed.
Final Thoughts
Pilot House Restaurant & Marina offers an excellent mix of fresh seafood, a scenic marina view, and a laid-back vibe that captures the essence of Key Largo. The friendly service, tasty dishes, and frozen cocktails make it a must-visit spot for anyone exploring the area. While the glass-bottom floor is no longer a major feature, the charming atmosphere and marina-side setting keep Pilot House a favorite among locals and tourists alike.
