Robbie’s Marina of Islamorada: A Must-Visit in the Florida Keys

|

If you’re heading down to the Florida Keys, one stop you absolutely have to make is Robbie’s Marina of Islamorada. Known for its laid-back vibe, thrilling wildlife interactions, and unique shopping experience, Robbie’s is a true gem for anyone looking to soak in the local culture while having a bit of adventure.

Feed the Famous Tarpon at Robbie’s Marina

The highlight of any visit to Robbie’s is undoubtedly feeding the massive tarpon from the dock. For just $2.50, you can access the dock where these impressive fish gather, waiting for their next snack. Buckets of fish are available for $5, allowing you to hand feed from the dock and watch these giants leap out for a bite. It’s an exciting, adrenaline-pumping activity that’s fun for all ages.

And we got a bonus during our visit—two nurse sharks were swimming around the dock! They were fed right from the dock as well, making the experience even more thrilling. It’s not every day you get to be this close to both tarpon and sharks in the wild.

Beware the Bold Pelicans

One of the unexpected surprises at Robbie’s is how comfortable the pelicans are around people. These birds seem to have mastered the art of intimidation, constantly lurking near the dock in hopes of snagging some of the fish intended for the tarpon. They’re bold, to say the least, and not shy about making a move on your bait if you’re not careful. It’s all part of the fun but be prepared to defend your bucket of fish!

Food and Shopping at Robbie’s Marina

Robbie’s isn’t just about wildlife interactions. The marina also boasts a bar and grill where you can grab a bite after feeding the tarpon, though we didn’t eat there this time. However, we did take a stroll through the shops, which were filled with t-shirts and souvenirs. While the merchandise was a bit on the pricey side, the selection was diverse and featured many items that capture the laid-back spirit of the Florida Keys.

A Dollar Bill Tradition

One of the most interesting and quirky features of Robbie’s is the hundreds of $1 bills stapled to posts and structures throughout the restaurant and shopping area. It’s a tradition that visitors have embraced over the years, leaving their mark on the place in a very literal way. This unique decoration adds to the eclectic, fun atmosphere that makes Robbie’s so memorable.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re an adventure seeker or just looking for a place to relax, Robbie’s Marina of Islamorada has something for everyone. From feeding the tarpon and watching sharks to browsing souvenir shops, it’s a quintessential Florida Keys experience you won’t want to miss.
